People tell me you have to wash new clothes differently than old clothes and some things I want shrunk and some I want to stay the same. I just moved out with my boyfriend and I'm in desperate need of help as I'm the one who has to do laundry!!

Okay, Heres what my mom told me when I was in college.

Colors in cold water so that they don't run.
Seperate your whites. Put them seperately in hot water with a little bleach to get them snowy.

To shrink clothes, deliberately give them an extra tumble in the drier, the hot air will shrink them.

Separating the clothes is your first step. I wash darks in cold water and lights in warm water but during the rinse cycle I use cold water to save on the electric bill; (I also wash either very early in the morning or very late at night again to economize). As far as shrinking clothes you can use the hottest water you can but remember if it's dark colors they may fade. Another tip:
teach your boyfriend how to do the laundry; it's only fair!
