I am a grown woman and I've matured a lot since I was young. I try very hard not to judge these days. I feel, who am I? I am not better than my fellow man...

People probably tend to judge others by higher standards because they don't know the other person inside and out. You know yourself and the good and bad qualities you possess so if you do something wrong you are more lenient on yourself because you know that you have more good qualities than that 1 bad quality.

With other people, you only see the bad quality and think that the person is bad in all respects. You don't know the other persons other qualities and morals and just assume they are a certain way based on one behavior or action.

An example of this is parents with their children and friends. If a child gets in trouble with a friend for say skipping school, a parent doesn't want their child to hang out with that friend anymore because he/she is a "bad influence". Even though what their child did was equally wrong, they excuse it because they know their child. They only see the bad side of the other child and assume that the other child is always doing bad things. So in this way, a parent judged the friend by higher standards than their own child.

Female
As I grow older, I judge less harshly as a rule of thumb. I believe that is because the older you get the more life's experience you have. Also I am not only a sympathetic person , I am an empathetic person. I almost ALWAYS try to imagine how someone "feels".
I also use the philosophy,"you don't know what it is to walk in their shoes".
I was walking downtown Cincinnati with my boyfriend, there was a person with a sign, wanting money,my boyfriend kind of rolled his eyes and said under his breath something about getting a job ! I said ,maybe the guy had mental disability, just because people appear to be perfectly fine doesn't always mean they are.
But to be perfectly honest I do probably judge myself harder.

I am 43 year old female. I really don't like to judge people but I would say that if I do judge it is lower than myself. I would like to see the results when you get them done.

As a construction manager I set pretty high standards for myself. I have lower standards for others and most have a difficult time meeting my expectations. It is a sign of the times. I am a mature adult female

You judge others by their actions alone without regard to the context of their actions. The opposite standard is usually applied to oneself. You judge yourself by judging first, the context and then you use this to justify your actions. Make sense? Male/22

I hold no one up to higher standards than myself. (I have a hard time living up to my own standards at times.) I probably judge people by lower standards.
I am a female in my 40's.
