It depends on which mail server you're using. They give you the instructions for the installation. For gmail for example; visit this link: http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=13276

Call your internet service provider is the only one who can help you set up your email port settings. POP3 is your incoming email and SMTP is your outgoing mail. There are other settings as well that they will be able to help you with. Have them walk you through the whole thing including sending and receiving email before you let them hang up.

It depends on what e-mail service you use. You can either call tech support and let them walk you through it, or you can go to your service's website and look through the "help" option. They usually go into detail about POP3, STMP, and all that and make it pretty simple. I had the same problem a few years ago and just went to the site. They tell you what to put for your POP3 and all, you can just copy/paste it in. Should be no problem after that.
Hope that helps. =)
