The easiest way to clean gold (white or yellow) is to just use an old toothbrush and detergent (whatever you use to wash dishes with) and rinse in warm water.

If you want to dip the piece to change the gold color..you can do that too but it will wear off and need to be repeated.

Better to dip it in white alcohol then a quick wash with warm soapy water will do the trick without any danger

Yes! gin or vodka will clean the piece. Leave it soaking for 5 minutes and clean with a very very soft toothbrush. Then rinse in cold water and wash in warm soapy water. Then rub dry with a lint free cloth or muslin to bring back the shine.
