Are you an adult? If so, take a friend with you on a mini-vacation to a pre-agreed upon location. Meet this person in a public place and do not be alone with him under any circumstances this first time. Don't put you or your friend in a position where he can take advantage of you or do you harm. Your friend is for keeping your good senses about you. If he can't agree to this, you probably don't want to meet him.

If possible, you should both bring a friend the first time you meet, and you should ABSOLUTELY meet in a public place with a plan to do something in public. If it's not possible to bring a friend, tell a friend what you're doing and let him or her know when they should hear from you again. That way, if they can't get ahold of you to know everything is ok, they can call the police and make sure you're safe or get help if you need it.

When you go to meet him, go with a group of your friends. It's better to be safe than sorry.
