I workout 4 days a week. I do not drink coffee or sodas of any kind. I have chewed tobacco for 23 years and have now stopped with the help of a patch. I checked my blood pressure a few times and it is 125 over 99. I was told anything over 90 is stroke level. Could the patch be causing this and how serious is this?

No it is not!!!!! 120/80 is normal. 200/150 could be a bit of a problem so I think you have a long long way to go before you start to get concerned! Nicotine is a vasodialator and it will bring up your blood presser but so will a good cup of coffee or one of those energy drinks so I wouldn't worry.

Yes the patch can increase your blood pressure. Consult your doctor about this because you're right anything over 90 is stroke level. You may need a lower dosage or a completely different patch. But consult your doctor on this. There are other factors that can raise blood pressure as well as stress, lack of sleep, what you eat, etc. This is why I say consult your doctor there maybe other factors contributing to the increasing of your blood presure. And congrats on quiting the tabacoo thing were all proud of you and keep it up.

The same effects of smoking and actually worse for a person who does not smoke because it is a sudden raise in blood pressure and makes them very nervous. So, what you saw was the effects of nicotine, she is lucky she did not have a stroke while on the patch.

I have been wearing the patch for years. I have never had blood pressure issues. I have asthma too.

But, you could be reacting to it differently then me. Different body chemistry. Hard to say.

yes! chemicals from the patch seep through your skin directly into your blood stream. also, the stress your body feels from the lack of the chewing tobacco can also raise blood pressure. try to drink LOTS of water to help remove the toxins from your system. GOOD LUCK

yes if the strenght is too high it may be giving you more than you really need ,its also dangerous to use if you have asthma as i found out when i was getting breathing problems ,working out is forcing it round your system faster id try another way if i were you ,mints chewing gum or just having a match stick to bt on can help it is just a matter of giving your mouth something to do .
