If so, where are you from and how do you deal with it? I feel so sorry for you and I would try my best to leave though I know certain circumstances make it harder for some people to leave.

I grew up in Los Angeles. When I was going to James Audubon Junior High School, a gang called the Crips were new and the appearance consist of Levi's Blue Jeans and a Blue B-52 Bomber Jacket (US Air Force).

Quickly the Bloods were their rivals. Susan Miller Dorsey High is Crip Territory and Crenshaw was the Blood's turf.

I retired from the US Navy and reside in San Diego. This mostly Bloods and Chicanos/ Asian gangs.

There are more than 250 active gangs in the City of Los Angeles. Many of these gangs have been in existence for over 50 years. Sadly, these gangs have a combined membership of over 26,000 individuals.

I live in Chicago and I do live in a high crime gang area. Contrary to common belief. Not many gang bangers just go around jumping on innocent people. I live my life normally like anybody else. I walk to the park down the street and take my daughter there. I sit on my porch on cool summer nights for fresh air. I leave early in the morning and go to work and I come home late at nights sometimes when I'm out with friends. I've never been robbed, shot, stabbed or recruited for a gang. Gangs really don't bother you unless you are involved in that life style. Sometimes you will hear of an innocent bystander being shot. Being in the wrong place at the wrong time, but that could happen anywhere with car accidents, plane crashes, etc.

I used to live in gang territory, in Holland, but it is not the same as in L.A., Tupac like. I lived in Nieuw-Vennep, a village for three years, a big village and there were some neighbourhoods, of which one we lived in, where there were different street gangs. Literally one street against the other. It would result in stealing each others cars. Beating up different members, attacking club houses and trying to set them on fire. Dealing in drugs etc. I think if I would have stayed there for more than three years, I would have ended up in jail but thank God my parents took us the hell out of there. The stupid thing is, living in a bad neighbourhood doesn't seem bad because you are in the middle of it. You don't see it coming and you don't know any better. There is the danger in growing up and becoming a criminal.

Not really, it's the suburbs of Chicago. They'd never shoot. I'm not concerned about these "Wanksters". Worst thing that happens over here is people getting shot with BB guns (very rare) and People getting killed in drunk driving accidents. Someone got hit by a car once (only once recently) When people from the old chicago ghettos that just closed down start getting out here, then we'll start seeing some action. Or they will. I'd have been gone.
