I would say a water bottle with a spray nozzle, and firmly say no. If they are chewers and they bite you, firmly exclaim "No bite" instead of "No biting", for this keeps it easier for the animal to keep in mind. If your kitten is really bad, lightly stomp after it and tell it what it did was bad in a deep voice. This will scare the cat a little bit, but only to the point where it will never do what it did again.

We used a water spray bottle for our kitten. When she would act...inappropiately, we would squirt her only once or twice. If you spray him every time he acts as he should not, squirt him. Remember, you are not hurting him. Tough love. Make sure to give him plenty of cuddling and love when he is being good. If you spray him with the water bottle, he will associate the punishment with the bottle, not you.

I would suggest that you use a spray bottle with water. Cats and kittens don't like the water so when the kitten does something that is inappropriate just spray a bit of water at him. After enough times he will learn and not do it anymore. It doesn't hurt him and he will still be affectionate.

I wouldn't hit him even lightly. It doesn't help, it just seems to make their attitude worse. A squirt bottle is definitely the way to go. The other thing to do is redirect his attention to what you want him to do - for instance if he's scratching on the couch, squirt him once to get him to stop, then put him on the scratching post and pet him and give him lots of praise. You have to make sure you do it every time for a while if you want him to get the message.

For one thing, don't discipline him with your hand because then he will become afraid of your hand. You want him to always associate your hand with something positive like food, kitty treats, or petting. A squirt gun is good discipline, its harmless but they don't like getting squirted. Only thing is, if kitty is doing something bad you need to squirt right then or the cat's brain is totally incapable of making any connection to the undesired behavior. So for now think about maybe getting some kitty treats and lovingly petting him while you feed him the treats, speak kindly in gentle tones so he trusts you. Good luck!!!

A squirt gun or spray bottle of water will work. Thats about as good as it get with cats and kittens. They definately have a mind of their own. But the above mentions will stop him in his or her tracks. Good Luck

I used a squirt bottle on my cat. It worked, but the effect wore off because now he likes it.

because he has no idea why you're swatting him and so now he doesn't trust you. cats can only be prevented from doing something (like by spraying them with a water bottle when they're doing something you don't like, or by using a substance they don't like to block them from an area you don't want them to go to), and punishment doesn't work. get yourself a book on cat behavior.
