Stretch your lid and apply a very thin line that's very close to the lashes, then see the result and if you need it you thicken it up a little more at the outer corner of your eyelid.
For liquid liner do the same but I've discovered a GREAT trick, first start with pencil liner, then trace the pencil line with liquid liner, that way you already have the shape and it's easier to control, so less pressure to do it right...

You just kind of have to sit there and practice. Just get some eyeliner, sit in front of the mirror, and fire away (it helps if you have lots of Q-tips and make-up remover). It took me a while to learn how to draw a thin, perfect line, and I'm still not really good at it.

I practiced for like ever but I'm ok with it now, I wear it not everydy but anyways thats besides the point.. I put it only on my bottom eyelid.. kinda thin then smudge it a little.. yup.. hope I helped..

start from the inside out on top
then bottom, start mid eye to the outside of lid and smudge

Good luck. its a real trial and error.
