David Yassky, a Jewish "white individual", is running for the United States Congress in New York's 11th congressional district to replace retiring Congressman Major Owens. Many have criticized him for running in a district with a black majority, a district redrawn to comply with the Voting Rights Act. They say the seat should remain in African-American hands.

I really look forward to the day when race does not matter.

Why do people think that their interests can only be represented by someone who looks just like them?? That is ignorant and small-minded, and racist.

The person who should be in Congress is the person who can best represent the interests of their entire district, and work within the system to bring about positive change.

A person's race and religion are not as important as their intelligence, political ability, experience, morals and honor.

It should be whoever is capable. The person that has the best strengths and intelligence. It really shouldn't be on the color of the individual because in the end that is racism also just reversed.

I think the seat belongs to whoever the voters in that district elect. If he is white, black, asian, hispanic, or an alien from Mars, it doesn't matter. What matters is what the voters think matters.
