The fact that people have actually answered yes to this is sort of scary. What kind of reality do people live in when they can believe that after 9/11?

I am glad that you said 'terrorists' without specifying any particular kind. Some of the answerers should remember that not all terrorists are Muslim ... quite a few have claimed to be Christian.

Terrorism is dying hard in Ireland, even though there has been some kind of settlement there. Terrorism is also still alive and flourishing elsewhere in the world.

There will, frankly, always be small groups and individuals who believe that the only way they can achieve their ends is by randomly killing innocent people who happen to belong to the country that they see as an oppressor.

It is not the terrorists themselves who we can appease by 'treating them better'. They have a fixation of hate in their hearts and an ideal of self-glorification (I really don't think the idea of 48 virgins in heaven counts for much with those that chose to commit suicide in their cause - the idea of martyrdom is, I suspect, much stronger in their minds.) Let us be quite clear on this - such people are no more Muslim than Hitler was a Christian.

If one came to an agreement with one faction who are, apparently, supporting terrorism, that would undoubtedly not go down well with another faction and there would be a new breed of terrorists

No.

Most terrorists don't act the way they do out of remorse for how we treated them. In fact, as sad as it is, Most non-threatening muslims and others are treated badly by us out of reaction for a terrorist act they had no control over.

Most do it just out of the fact that we are seen as a "Super power" by them and they want to be able to say they knocked us down. What they don't see is they in fact build us up with each blow. Our inner strength grows as we feel some of the pride in protecting that which so many of our forefathers did. Countries are even banning together over this to create a stronger bond over the terrorists. And it is creating a strong tie accross the oceans. Soon it just may be little old them against the entire world!

What is sick is they will use billions of dollars to create these little sects and strike out un Terror while leaving starving people in their own country in the Streets. And they claim it is the rest of us that are to blame for the poverty of "their people" We send billions in supplies each year to these people as well as buy the gas that comes from there. But only a select few recieve the money for the oil so how can they say it's our fault?

We can treat people like gods and they will still try to beat us down. Sometimes it just doesn't pay to be nice. People take advantage of the kindness and will take and take until there is nothing left to take. Terrorists live to hurt, frighten or belittle others.
No, I don't think treating them better will cause them to leave us alone.

Let's see, what has history taught us, when we don't realize that a terrorist act is part of a larger war and instead treat it like a criminal offence for example, the '93 WTC bombing, terrorists see the inaction or weak action as a green light to do as they please, which leads to the embassy bombings, the USS Cole attack and eventually 9/11, so I would say, no, the extremists shouldn't be appeased or told "it isn't your fault" or other soft speech that takes the blame away from the killers, they should be killed where they hide and the nations that hide them should suffer the consequences.

I've said many times. The war on terror as called by Bush
is an ideological and a physical war... if we keep on fighting the physical war we will have to kill every one who does not like the USA. which is most of the world out there..
The only way to win this war is to fight the international policies that have created terrorism. al quaeda was a creation of the USA.
The Iranian people have a justify reason to hate the USA, read some history about the Iraq-Iranian war and you'll see. Thounsands of people were killed in Latin America by regims impossed by the USA. All those action have created all the hate towards the US gobernment...

No...Terrorists want something. You give them what they want then they will ask you for more. Or the threats and the violence keep coming. Its like giving the Bullies your lunch money. Then ask for this and that and try to take every last scrap of dignity from you. How do you deal with that? You have to look inside yourself knowing you are in cycle of hate and accept it. You didn't put yourself there...he did. So its time to get it on and raise the threshold of pain on them too. Its a battle of WILLS your vs them.

of course, treat anyone with respect and you'll earn respect in return. But treat someone as sub human or in contempt and you merely earn loathing and distrust.

Give it a try, it really worked. It's working pretty well in South Africa and until 1990 the SA government and the ANC,and others, were at war.

No. Like most religions and religious freaks, it's not about being left alone and treated better, their fight is about power and the non-believers.

In what way do you mean, "Treat them better?"

Do you mean lighter sentencing after they have blown themselves to bits?

Do you mean by allowing them access to airplanes without going through all the hassles the rest of us go through as security checkpoints?

Or, by terrorists, do you mean people of Muslim countries, thereby branding all Muslims as terrorists?
