I am going to the renaissance festival on th 26th of August, and I need to make my skin look whiter. I heard that you could use baby powder or flour, but I don't know how to make it stay on all day long. I don't really want to use foundation. And I would like to use something that I could find around the house, or something that isn't expensive.

Use a light foundation...then..take a big blush brush...the fluffier and wider the better and dip into loose face powder...buy for fair skin and brush all over your face. Be sure to tap the brush against the jar of face powder or it will go on too thick and unevenly. It will give your skin a very very fair and porcelain complexion. NOTHING will work well for you if you don't use a light foundation first...if you don't want to do that...then use a moisturizer before adding the lose powder.

You don't need to look paler unless you are going to act like a prisoner, undernurished, or sick person. You could use a lighter foundation and top it off with a lighter powder but remember you need to cover every part of your body that will be exposed or you may have two tone all over, wear gloves also.

Period makeup had lead in it- one of the places where period is definitely not recommended!

A good powder foundation several shades lighter than your regular skin color would be your best bet, would last all day, and give you some SPF sunscreen as well. Theatrical makeup would also be an option; Elizabethan makeup tended to be heavy and almost clownish to today's eyes. You could experiment with the period egg white & talc recipe mentioned on this page...

I know that you don't want to use foundation, but it actually works pretty well, I have this great stick foundation that paled my skin out. It stayed on all day and it didn't get on my clothes.

buy some powder that is made for fair fair skin, or use a light colored eyeshadow all over your face. i'm sure that cheap wal-mart brands sell ivory colored eyeshadow for less than $3. apply the eyeshadow using a powder brush rather than an eyeshadow brush (time consuming!)

I've heard before that rubbing lemon juice on your skin can lighten it. I don't know if it actually works though. Try dusting some cornstarch on your body.
