Probably a silly question, but I was wondering if it could make your cycle different, ie: shorter, lighter, etc.

I got my tubes tied after I had my second baby in 2005. And it has affected my period. I used to have a normal period that lasted 3-5 days. Now it comes on early and last a week sometimes longer. And it also comes on 2-3 times a month. I also bleed heavy and I pass big blood clots. I contacted my Ob/Gyn and she said it was normal. She also said that I would have to take birth control to regulate my period. Got me wondering why get your tubes tied if you still need to use birth control.

I had a tubal ligation at 35 and noticed no difference. I was done with my change, though, by 45 and have talked to others who have also had an earlier than usual menopause after a tubal ligation.

No it doesn't. I had one thirty some years ago and everything was the same after. When I went through the change of life, from what I gather it was easier than for those that never had the tubaligation. The dr. kept asking me how I was handling the hot flashes, I said , and am still saying." I am waiting for them to start." I would say go for it. One thing , no more cramps. It was great and never new I had the monthly friend.

I had mine tied 8 years ago and never noticed any difference in my cycle. Like other people have said, it seems to be different for each woman. And, no, i don't think its a silly question.

it can. For some women they get a lighter shorter period. But others still have 5 day periods.

My mom had her tubes tied after she had my sister and her periods got a lot heavier. It may affect everyone differently though.
