i'm really confuced about that. I know Hera is his wife, and i know he didn't marry any mortal. My problem is Metis, was she his wife or not?

The myth about Metis is actually a little fuzzy. They weren't really married, but the bit about Athena being born from his head makes the story kinda strange. Usually, when gods are swallowed, they come back out at some point, but somehow, Metis (a type of Wisdom, but not Sophia) got swallowed and Zeus...absorbed her. The wisdom made a baby pop out of his head, or he took an ax and cracked his head open and she jumped out fully grown. Even by skanky ol' Zeus's standards, that's one weird-a$$ story.

I guess Metis was a little more, um, closer to Zeus's heart than the other women he "seduced" (that was a pun), which might set her apart a little, but technically, they weren't married. There's some doubt as to whether Metis even existed--she might have just been some kind of idea that made him create a divine thought-form kinda entity. It's interesting from a Jungian psychology perspective, but confusing from a mythology perspective. But then, Zeus lusted after all manner of beings, so maybe he'd even have sex with a not-entirely-animate deity idea-type entity.

Hera, one of his sisters, was his only official wife, but they only had Ares together (War.) Hera pretty much despised Zeus and hated all his dalliances, but didn't want to give up her position as Queen of the Olympians. Moral: don't marry your siblings! Ugh.

Zeus only had one wife, Hera. However, he had many dalliances with female gods and mortals. He usually did this in disguise, and many writings say that Zeus was fearful of his wife's wrath if she caught him in the act.

I think he had but one wife, Hera. Some of the paramours of Zeus are:

Alcmene | mother of Herakles

Danae | mother of Perseus

Europa | mother of Minos, Rhadamanthys, & Sarpedon

Io | mother of Epaphus

Leda | mother of Helen

Leto | mother of Apollo and Artemis

Maia | mother of Hermes

Metis | mother of Athena

Mnemosyne | mother of the Muses

Semele | mother of Dionysos

Blessings )O(

Metis was not the wife of Zeus.
