They've got a chance. If you look at the playoff picture now, the only team that's close is the Twins and maybe the White Sox.
The Red Sox and Yankees bith have mediocre pitching. I'm a Sox fan, and I think if we even nake the playoffs we're out in the first round. The Yanks have been too inconsistent to count on. They're hot right now, but Mussina is injured, Johnson is inconsistent, and Wang is the only pitcher who they might be able to count on, and he really has yet to prove himself in a big game.
The West is a joke. The Angels have proven that their offense is streaky, and their pitching is not fantastic. Weaver's great, but he's a rookie, so needs to prove himself. The A's can't hit for much, and their pitching is also not great. Harden has been out all season, and even if he's back for the playoffs, he's not going to be able to contribute all that much. Zito can pitch like an ace, Haren's done well, but Blanton isn't great, and niether is Loiaza. Their bullpen is also a question mark, especially with Street injured.
The Central is a power division. More likely than not, two of those teams will make the playoffs. The White Sox are interesting. they have depth, but their pitching has been below expectations this season. Garland has not been as good as his 16 wins. Beurhle has been mediocre at times. Garcia is streaky, Vasquez makes a good number 3, but no higher, and Contreras is not fantastic lately either. Their bullpen is just average, and jenks is not a spectacular closer, although he leads the league in saves. The Twins have by far the best pitching in the league. If they make the playoffs, Santana will be great and Radke should be solid. he's gotten it together lately. Liriano, due to a low number of innings pitched because of time in the bullpen and on the DL, shouldn't drop off too much in late September and into October. Silva, however, has had a terrible season, and I really don't know enough about Matt Garza, their fifth starter, to comment, although I've heard he's great.
That brings us to the Tigers. The biggest question concerning them is whether or not their young pitching staff can deal with October. Personally, I think they'll be fine. The playoffs look to be a battle of rookie pitchers, so that fact that the Tigers also have Kenny Rogers in their rotation is a plus. Their offense is solid, if not spectacular, and they know how to play like a team. They definitely have a shot at it. I honestly feel that at this point, the only team who can beat them is the Twins, and we'll have to see whose pitching holds up better. Should be a good October, I'll tell you that much.

My analysis of the Tigers' situation.
Behind the plate they have Ivan Rodriguez. Pudge has a pretty consistent bat with some power. He's got a hose.
At first base, Sean Casey is consistent too, with a good glove.
Omar Infante is a bad hitter, but has good speed and fielding skills.
Carlos Guillen is a good all-around player.
Brandon Inge is a good utility player. He's okay all-around, but makes the big play on defense.
Marcus Thames is an okay developing player. His bat is better than his fielding. He provides some power.
Curtis Granderson is a good lead off hitter with lots of potential. We'll see if his composure is present in the off-season.
Some veteran leadership and hitting skills are provided by right fielder Magglio Ordonez.
Dmitri Young is the DH and a good hitter at that, but hasn't been playing much.
The pitching staff is anchored by Kenny Rogers, who isn't having his best year, but a good one. Jeremy Bonderman has been consistently good this year too. Zach Miner is pretty good for a third starter. Nate Robertson and Justin Verlander are some of the best rotation cabooses.
Todd Jones is an experienced closer. Fernando Rodney and Joel Zumaya are excellent relievers for not being closers. They could be closers on other teams. The rest of the bullpen is overachieving and we'll see how they will fare in the postseason.
Overall, their pitching has been very consistent this year and that will definitely help their chances. They will win not only the division, but the league. Their World Champion campaign will end against the Mets, who will take the title.

Ya understand, it fairly remains an prolonged techniques off. enable us to savour the season first. yet, it would desire to take place They easily have the skills to flow a techniques. on an analogous time because it would be constructive for My Boys to win the international sequence, i'm maximum easily will savour although they do. For the 1st time in an prolonged on an analogous time as, My Boys have become the honour they so rightfully deserve. injuries? Ha! If that have been to take place, it would be NO project, as our farm gadget is definitely stocked and in a position to flow. The Tigers are looking good, yet first would desire to win the AL vital. that's no longer somewhat an hassle-free activity---as Cleveland and Minnesota would be interior the blend all season long. the biggest right here is get off to a good start up. in the event that they'd win 25-27 of thier first 40 video games, then i'd say definite. enable me flow on checklist suited now and say that no rely what occurs, The 2006 American League Champion Detroit Tigers could have a good 3 hundred and sixty 5 days, and 2006 became into no longer a fluke. (in comparison to a pair 2005 team all of us understand and dislike). no rely what occurs i visit proceed to be an rather unswerving, committed and PROUD fan of The Detroit Tigers.

I hadn't watched the Tigers play more than a few games this year. So I had to watch a few games more to see what this team is all about. And from what I saw in that Rangers series, I'd have to say this is a team that is losing steam. I don't see them hanging on to make the playoffs. White Sox are much better.

Detroit will have to get by both New York teams. The Yankees are hot and look like a cinch to be in the A.L.C.S. and the Mets look like they will get in the World Series...
It going to be a tough go for Detroit, but, as Yogi Berra once said...
It aint over 'til it's over...

They have a chance.
If all they do is win the Central Division, and go no furtther I would be very happy.
Considering where they have been over the last 15 years, this season has been very magical.
Anything past winning The Central would be icing on the cake.

If they keep playing at this pace, yes.
They are definitely a forerunner to win the ALCS and who from the NL would be able to beat them.
As long as it isn't the yankees, I'll cheer for them!

Yes, they are strong in every facet of the game.
They have as good of a chance as anyone else who will make the playoffs, if not better.

Well everyone in the playoffs has a chance. I personally don't think that they can win it. They are a fluke and are just very lucky. They'll probably lose in the ALDS!
