I'm 13 and I want to get a cartilage peircing. I wanted to know what some pros and cons are of getting one. If you have gotten a cartilage peircing before, what did it feel like? And can it get infected easily. Please answer especially if you've had or have one.

I have a cartilage piercing and it was sore for a long time. It also would not heal properly. Do not do it. It is just a fad.

OK, first off, it takes about a year for it to fully heal and not hurt if you sleep on it. I got mine done with a piercing gun.....which is really the wrong way to do it because when you get it done this way, the cartilage in the ear shatters and therefor takes way longer to heal. My advice, get your parents permission and go to a body piercer. they use a small hollow needle that is more gentle on the cartilage and healing time is generally at the most 6 months.

Yeah it will be tender for quite some time. Cartilage can take up to one year to fully heal. I've had 5 different cartilage piercings.

If you are going to get a piercing, do to a piercing shop (not claires or walmart etc) and get pierced with a actual piercing needle NOT a gun. Piercing guns are unsafe. And use a barbell or little captive ring, depending on what style you like. They are more prone to infection, so you just have to give them extra love. Cleaning them and protecting from trauma. They should be ok though. I have 4 of them and mine are all healed and fine. It doesnt hurt too much more than any other piercing. Any bit of pain is worth it if you like the piercing.

I have the top of my ear done and the cartilage ther wasn't even that hard. Let me tell you it will hurt for a good six months. And if ur considering getting it somewhere with harder cartilage then the pain will prob be more.

Don't get permanently mutilated for the sake of what might be a temporary fad.
