Take her to a beautiful place like a park or something like that set up a beautiful table with candles you might want the candles in glass so they wont go out. Lots of candles all over with a beautiful vase on flowers. It would be even better just before dark. make sure you use real plates. My husband is the most unromantic guy in the world. But, here are some idea's from some of my friends whose husbands seem very romantic:

Get the matre'd of a restaurant to put the ring on top of her favorite dessert, then serve it at the end of dinner under a silver (or whatever) cover. She'll take the cover off and voila, there's the ring.

Tie a string around the ring, then tape the end of the string to the inside lid of a candy jar filled with her favorite candy. She takes the lid off and the string comes out with the ring on it.

If you live by the ocean, put the ring in a seashell and put the seashell in your pocket, and take her to the beach in evening when it's cooler. As you're walking along the beach, discreetly take the shell out of your pocket and bend over like you've found something. Say something like, oooh, what a pretty shell and hand it to her. The ring falls out, etc, etc.

Put the ring in one of those little plastic containers that trinkets come in, in gumball machines. When you are in a store or the mall, put a quarter in a machine that sells only the trinkets. Turn the knob and when the trinket comes out of the machine descreetly switch it with the one you have already prepared with the ring inside. Hand it to her and when she opens it, voila, engagement ring!!!!

Order one of those specialty fortune cookies that have a personalized fortune inside, slip the ring inside before you give it to her.

I have a spot picked out if I EVER propose again. I am divorced now but you never know.

There is a waterfall in the state I live in that is a mile under ground and this water fall is appox. 100 ft high. That's were I want to propose. Stop the tour and announce it to 20-25 complete strangers under this water fall of beauty. This waterfall has been there for 1000s of years but just discovered recently and will continue for 1000s of more years........"just as our love"

......or something like that.....I'll think of the words later, but I got the place picked out though.

My brother proposed to his fiance at the airport. She had just arrived and was pushing her trolley with all her luggage in down the aisle and when she reached the bit where you can see if people are waiting for you, my brother ran up to her and dropped down on one knee, pulled out a ring in the box and asked her to marry him! You should cook for her. It should be her favorite dinner. Put some candles all over the room and on the table. Place some rose pedals on the table. If you drink, some wine glasses and a bottle of wine sitting on the table. Tell her that you have a surprise for her and want her to be there at this time. lots of different ways you can do it. If you and her have a child together....long story short hook up the baby monitors....baby cries..she goes to check on the baby..in the crib next to the baby is a note and it says..."Will you marry my daddy". Horse and Carriage ride at the end of a romatic evening with dinner and the whole nine yards. Birtday with everyone around. Holiday season with her family there...anything unexpected. You could be laid back about it and during halloween dress up and propose in a funky costume have her pull it out of a pumpkin or somethin'. Have a few key words ready about what you want to say to her, she'll probably forget most of it because she will be in shock.

It might be fun to "play" a scavenger hunt with little clues at you house, just tell her to come over and you'll go out to dinner, but a little bow can be waiting at the door when she gets there. You can put clues around the house/apartment....etc. to eventually find you with roses and the ring. Maybe even clues about your relationship (like first place we had a date...etc) then you could tape the next clue to the name of the restaurant in the phone book... (then maybe her favorite shirt to see you in) and put the next clue on that shirt in the closet..you could make it huge and have her drive all around town (but she might get mad..) or simple and have it around the house and you can hide in the bathroom or something fun.

If you don't have a ring and want to let her pick out one, you could make a silly one and put it in a fancy box, then after you put ito n her finger, propose...etc. then tell her she can pick it out...

oooh. Propose at the beach and find a nice place where the waves splash up really high on the rocks. When you propose makes sure that you are doing it at the opportune moment... when the waves splash up from behind you so it looks very magical. And it has to be at like sunset or sunrise. GOOD LUCK!
