Is being shy and having social anxiety same thing?

As I have just answered in your other thread:

Social phobia is an intense fear of social situations where the sufferer feels that they will act in a way that will be humiliating or embarrassing. Often people with social phobia will be MISTAKEN AS JUST BEING VERY SHY.

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BEING SHY AND SOCIAL PHOBIA is that with social phobia the fear is pervasive and interrupts the sufferers' normal interactions with others. Sufferers of social phobia often also have panic attacks in the situations that cause this fear.

Why don't you go and see your doctor so he can properly diagnose you?

I have read some litterature about panic attacks. But they allways seem to have a more scientific approach and that is nothing I need in my struggle to survive those horrible panic attacks. This is a "hand on" and very practical book. I felt it was written to me. I am sure that you are going to feel the same.

Joe Barry writes exactly how I think. The examples are perfectly described. And the method is genius. I recommend this book and thanks Joe Barry for writing it. It changes your life

It can be, if the shyness if excessive, bordering on fear. If that's the case, talk to your doctor.
