There are a number of reasons. Here are some of the most common:
1)Females have shorter urethras than males, bacteria have less distance to travel
2)Not emptying bladder regularly (causes bladder to stretch which weakens the muscle - if this happens frequently - causing the bladder to not completely empty)
3)Most females wipe back to front after bowel movements, moving E. coli bacteria into the area
4)Sexual activity - bacteria in the vaginal area is sometimes massaged into the urethra by the motion of the penis
