I have a small country basket made of blackcoated mesh wire. It was filled with pinecones for a decoration, but I got tired of that. Now I want to refill it. Other than flowers, what would be a unique thing to fill it with?

You can go and get ceramic fruits or veggies to put in it. I have one with tomatoes and peppers that I got at Ikea. I have seen them at Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, and Pier 1. They are really cool. Just an idea.

Unique, hm? Well, the nice thing about baskets is that they'll hold just about anything that you want to put in them. If you wanted to you could put dog toys (new, of course!) in, pebbles and candles, balls from whatever sports you or your family might be interested in, non-perishable snacks like nuts or candies, or you could even put a pillow in there and turn it into a pincushion or (if it's too big for that) a decorative sewing basket.

Golf balls.
Actually, some of the craft shops have some nice polished stones. Find a nice light colored rock & it could set off the basket nicely - or go the other way with black on black I've filled a small black pot (bought it on the reservation some years ago), with polished black rocks - looks good.

Sea shells would be nice.. you could put a few pictures sticking out of them
A fall theme would work, a small pumpkin, colored leaves, some gourds.
How about some pretty stones and a couple candles?

Fill it with fake fruite/vegetables or even fake flowers and bottles of wine with plastick grapes around it.
