Local mental health numbers are in the phone book they will take you immediately or talk to you. The problem is so prelevant that when world crisis...occurs they probably do have a high volume but the fact about suicide is, they will do it if that is what they want. Other wise call mental health facility 24 line and help this person. They wouldn't ask for your help if they were really serious in most cases.

YES!! Do you believe that?

I have a friend who was having suicidal thoughts as he drove home one night. His therapist had given him a card with a suicide hot line number on it and he decided to call it instead of running his truck into a tree......when he called someone answered and said "Suicide Hot Line, can you hold please?" My friend found that so hysterically funny and laughed so hard that he drove right on past that big tree was thinking about driving into and went home to his family and is thankfully still alive today.

I guess the suicide hot line did save his life even if they did put him on hold!!!

What would be the point of the hotline if they put you on hold?

Unfortunately they can put you on hold. They are supposed to keep you talking while they contact the proper help for you.You may not know this but a lot of hotlines are answering services, for many different companies.I know this as fact because i used to answer one..hope that helped

I can't say for sure. However, in Los Angeles, I have called 911 on a few occasions and have been put on hold for several minutes.

Probably. If there are more calls than counselors, being acknowledged and put on hold is better than a busy signal or an unanswered phone.

Funny!

"Due to a high call volume, your wait time may be longer than usual - if you do manage to last that long your call may be recorded for quality control purposes."

They even have music on hold... but using the theme song from M*A*S*H, "Suicide is Dangerous" is, perhaps, a bit much.
