Just wondering. I mean, lately you hear all these bad things surrounding cops, how many of them use the fact that they have a badge to inflict sexual assaults and stuff. What does that say? Where's the fine line between the criminals and the cops? Quite scary, right. And then we wonder how crime rates have increased so much over the years...

But, I'm not saying all cops are bad. I have family members that are cops, but there are still those bad apples out there. Share you opinions, folk.

Thanks.

But a lot of them don't necassarily risk their lives, per say. Many of them you see not doing the job they're supposed to, and many others go for the desk jobs. I think ambition is missing. At least in my area...

I agree with the fact that cops don't get the respect they deserve, and that's not right.

There's going to be bad apples in every professsion: law enforcement, medicine, teachers, priests, etc. As you have family members that are cops, so do I (my dad is actually retiring at the end of the year). The problem is that too many have absolutely no respect for cops whatsoever, and want to generalize way too much (i.e., "one as an asshole to me, so they all are").

It depends on the person. I once had a cop pick me up when I first moved to Kansas because he thought I was a hooker he had arrested a few times and didn't believe what my ID said because it was an out of state ID. I also had a lot of cops stop my friends and I just to oogle our goodies. We did not dress that bad. Jeans and a tank top that fell over the top of the jeans so it was odd. They ls run red light because they are cops. or park in handicap parking spaces or in the fire lane. They think they can get away with everything. Most cops are pigs. And I am not referring to the slang word for them. IT is just like calling a normal guy a pig. My dad is a decent cop tho. He works on white sands in NM as a civilian cop on the base. It is a new program they have.

Well, to be truthful, there is another side to that coin.

There are some good police officers out there. I have met a few of them. And you can gather on your own the circumstances under which we met. You don't usually meet too many officers at cocktail parties. It has been my experience that people are people. It's a cliche- it's quite old and overused, but it is demonstrably true when it comes to human nature. There is good and bad in everything, and people are not an exception to this immutable, universal law. There are good people, and bad people. It follows that there are good cops, and bad cops. Some of them really do care about people- even people who are not worthy of it, like criminals who choose to harm innocent members of society. But to be honest, I don't think that good-hearted cops come in large numbers. They're rare, but they still exist.

Now to the other side of the coin. There are a lot of cops out there who are ticking timebombs. They see the @ss of society on a daily basis. Little wonder that they are so burned out, cynical, and just unpleasant to be around! They have to understand that if they take this job, they are going to see all sorts of ugliness. That can have an impact on the personality of the observer.

I don't trust authority. I don't like authority. I think that some of them are up to no good. No- I KNOW that some of them are up to no good.

But, we have to have law enforcement in our world. It's a necessary evil. The law is in place to protect person and property- but the problem is that sometimes, people take advantage of their freedoms, and it causes everyone else to suffer.

I love America- my country. But I hate and oppose the system.

All of the problems you mentioned involved 'field' police. So those are the ones I shall talk about.
Being a 'field' policeman is a demanding job, and not very well paid. Anyone who just needed money could have become a construction worker, burger flipper, or hobo with shopping cart full of tin cans. Thus, I suspect that most of the people who choose to become 'field' policemen do it because they enjoy the work. The work consists of violence. People who enjoy violence often have issues with their self-control. Thus, they tend to get carried away in the line of duty. Given a chance, they might get caught up in the fun of it and do very bad things. Lately, they have been given a chance. Thus, the trouble is not the 'field' officers themselves, but their management. The paper-pushers.

Abuse of power in any position is scary. I mean, look at priests. There are bad apples in every sector, because we are all human and some people will succumb to lust, power and greed. Not all. Most people probably get into their fields with the right intentions and most of them probably stay the course, but humans are fallible and can fall to temptation. They should be punished though, appropriately when caught, not hushed up.

Of course there are always a few bad ones in the mix, but my brother-in-law is a S.W.A.T. team member in Texas and is one heck of a guy.

I think cops as well as in all occupations, have an opportunity to do good things or bad things.

Thats like asking what do you think of dentists or authors. there are good ppl and bad all over. Let me tell you though, if there was no law, you wouldn't like it being a chick, you'd probably be in a gutter somewhere. so ppl need to have some respect for cops. they risk their a$$ so you can sit on your comp bad mouthing them.

Cops are gang members. They are the worst people of the world. Sadly we need a police force; only the cops should be the best people of the world. However, the concept is to deal fire with fire, so they hire the worst of the worst.

Cops are people like you and me, so their job is different and many times dangerous. They represent the System.
Bad or good ones, only God knows... I do not waste my time thinking about it. I respect them and treat as any other employee.

I used to have a lot of respect for cops. That's how I was raised. But I'm seeing LOTS of the same things in my community that you write about. They have to work hard to earn my respect now.
