first of all, stand behind him so he cant see you. call him or make a noise or drop something to see if he responds. see if he looks in that direction or stops moving because of the noise. if he responds then you know he can hear you. if he does not respond no matter how loud please get his hearing checked. if he cant hear things around him like noise, other people etc., he cant mimic back. if he can hear he will begin when hes ready. still have him checked out.

5 1/2 months? or 5 1/2 years?

At 5 1/2 months old, babies don't talk yet. They don't really start talking until about 12 months old and even then, they can only say 2-3 words. Five and a half month old babies only goo goo and gaa gaa.. this is normal.

If on the other hand you're talking about a 5 1/2 years old, then you MUST talk to a specialist about this because it's a serious developmental delay not to be talking at this age.

He's 5 1/2 months old?? Baby noises are about all you can expect from him. Just enjoy all the wonderful goo goo's and gaa gaas, he'll talk soon enough and there will be days when you wish he wasn't talking!

Are you talking 5 1/2 months or a 5 1/2 year old? 5 1/2 months I wouldn't worry, but if he's not talking at 5 1/2 years, then there maybe a problem.

Assuming you mean 5 1/2 months, based on other questions you've asked and the time frame, I would say you have nothing to worry about....I mean, you can't expect junior to jump right out and say "Hey mom, how are you doing today?" My 15 month old (5 weeks premature) is now saying clearly mama, and dada, and sometimes tries to say "thank you" when you give him something (absolutely adorable, but nowhere near clear.) As for when your son will talk clearly....my 3 year old is just starting to put sentences together and be really fun to talk to. He has been saying most words since he was two however. Be patient, all kids talk in their own time. My older sister didn't say a word till she was 2 1/2 years because our older sister would talk for her. Just remember, each kid is different. Best wishes :)

5 & 1/2 ... what? Years? Months??

Years, yes there's most likely a problem, and he should be seen by his pediatrician who can refer you to a reputable child psychiatrist.

Months, no, there's nothing wrong. Some babies make more noises than others. My nephew wouldn't even cry (he only grunted) till he was over a year old, then he started chattering and we can't shut him up!!! Each kid is different in this respect. Again, if you have questions, talk to *qualified* professional.

years or months.... thats the big question....if he is 5 1/2 yrs then that could be a problem if he is just 5 1/2 months then dont worry he will talk when he is ready every baby is different my daughter was about 6 1/2 months old when she said her first word. so just work with him and give him time.

if you mean 5 and half months --- then that's normal --- I have 6 grandkids and most of them talked (spoke clear enough to understand) between 8 to 10 months...could say "da da" or
"ma ma" very well and a few other words.
If the pediatrician hasn't given cause for concern then stop worrying, different babies develop at different rates.... my oldest brother put most babies to shame when he was walking, talking, had a mouth full of teeth by the time he was 6 months old! the rest of us were a lot slower in developing those skills.

51/2 months, then he is okay. 51/2 years, yes be worried. If your baby is not around a lot people to hear them talk or children or whatever then the baby wont talk too much. The other babies probably have people talking to them way more than your baby gets talked to. You see what I'm saying? Hope I've been helpful.

At my sons 2yr. appt. The well being practitioner asked if he replaced into asserting a minimum of three words besides mama and dada. He wasn't in contact if he replaced into asserting a minimum of three different words. each and every youngster is diverse. some are enormous talkers and a few are forward in different issues like walking, mountain climbing, figuring issues out and take alittle greater time to chat. My son is in basic terms over 2 and easily says sentences right here and there yet he's gaining information of further and extra extensive-unfold. supply him time.

Is he 5 1/2 yrs old, months old? If he's 5 years old. Then yes, be worried...have his hearing checked or something. If your baby is 5 1/2 months old no need to worry at all.
