Yes, it is legal. The terms for 5 months is a contract position. And companies do not have to provide insurance for contract employees.
Whether or not you're working 40 hours a week, you're still a contractor.

Fortunately, this is legal.
Insurance is a fringe benefit that some organizations pay to employees in order to compensate them and help in keeping them.
Why in the world would we force an employer to pay for your insurance? We don't mandate how good a job you do.
Also, if they were required to provide you insurance they simply wouldn't hire you. So, are you better off with the job and no insurance or no job at all?

Is there no health insurance thru the Gov....or none period? As a private contractor that can happen. As for private insurance companies..if your in a area...where there is a war.....well, that's in the fine print....Acts of War...most of the time are not covered. You just got to do some research on your own.Question the company that you work for...whoever issues your check.

It sounds like you accepted a temporary job, an employer is not required to provide benefits for temporary workers. Now that they see what great work you can do though, you may be at an advantage when they hire permanent workers.

Unfortunately, yes it is legal. You're best bet is to ask other temporary workers how they get their insurance, or simply contact different health insurance companies to get rate quotes. Good Luck!

Health Insurance is an option employers have to offer employees-not a requirement.Unless it is offered and you do not "qualify" because you are working contract or for a temp. agency. "Putting in 40 hrs. is not enough."
