I'm not a big fan of buying single comics, so if anyone can think of graphic novels to buy tha would be great.

Get Marvels by Kurt Busiek and Alex Ross - that's a collection of 4 issues. Incredible art and storytelling.
Frank Miller's run on Daredevil is excellent - pick up the collected Man Without Fear for his take on the character's origin. His Born Again story is also as solid a story as you can get in Marvel.
Try out the Earth X, Universe X, Paradise X epic for a broad look at the entire Marvel universe and what it may become.
Outside of Marvel, read Sandman by Neil Gaiman, Transmetropolitan and Planetary by Warren Ellis, Preacher by Garth Ennis, Top 10, Tomorrow Stories and League of Extraordinary Gentlemen by Alan Moore.
To be honest, most of the good stuff is not published by Marvel who tend to rely on never-ending series that can't possibly maintain a high level of quality and repeat that same stories over and over again, Seriously, how many times has Jean Grey died and Professor X disappeared mysteriously or Magneto switched from villain to hero?
And for god's sake man - make sure you own Watchmen and The Dark Knight Returns! There's a reason they're considered the best ever written after 20 years.

Personally i'm a big fan of the Punisher and Wolverine. Both are available in Graphic novels sometimes together. Wolverine Weapon X a graphic novel of the Marvel comics presents series is very good explaining how Wolvy got his Adamantium Skeleton.

Check out Marvel's Essential books. They collect each series, starting with issue 1. They're in B&W, but they're also super cheap for what you get. It's an easy way to catch up on your back issues. I'd suggest The Amazing Spiderman and Wolverine. If you're up for something a little lighter, try some She-Hulk. She's not in the essentials yet, but the latest series has been collected into more standard graphic novels.

Read Daredevil: The Man without Fear. The latest run has a great story and beautiful artwork.
The books u need are Underboss, Out, Lowlife and Hardcore. They have a great story of Daredevil's secret identity being revealed and how he deals with it.
For a starter, I recommend Guardian Devil.
Write back if u require any more information.

Even though you don't like single comics, read the seven issue Civil War series. It's at about issue 3 or 4 now and is awesome. You don't need the other titles associated, just Civil War

The Justice League of America and The Avengers. They have a bit more dialogue than those of the X-Men titles but it makes their fights much more meaningful.
