The degree of pain depends very much on the pain tolerance of the individual, so it's hard to say. To prepare you for the absolute worst I'll guess 'tween 6 &7; although I felt just a tingling sensation for my two tattoos.
So, don't sweat it, 'cause I really doubt it will be as bad as you imagine.

On the front or the back? If we are talking back then it should be like a 3 or 4. If your talking about your belly then it will be a little worse i got one right under my solar-plexus and it hurt worse than any on my arms. the shitty thing was my muscles in my stomach kept getting tense because of the pressure and constant pain, so i would call it a 6 but i like the pain so for me it was like a 3. A good way to tell is to get a real small area of skin and pinch. If it hurts alot then the tattoo will hurt alot it about how concentrated your surface nerves are in that area.

I've heard that the more soft tissue the area has, the less it hurts. Bone is the worst, where muscle is the best. if you get a tat on your hipbone, it would be awful. but I would imagine having a needle stuck into your skin would hurt either way. I would guess between a 4 and a 6.

Mine's on my lower back, and it felt about like a constant tingling, rather than actual pain. If you're getting yours on your belly area, won't even be as painful. More fatty area away from the bone.

More importantly: how long before you'll regret having it done.

To be brutally honest, for me a tattoo is like a little tag that tells you who the stupid people in this world are.

And, worse yet, it's sleezy. I'm talking Florida trailer-park sleazy.

Take the money you have for the tattoo and learn a new language. That you will never regret.

I have 2 tattoos that go across my lower stomach and the side of my stomach next to my belly button and one that goes across my lower back. the lower front hurt the worst out of all 10 of my tattoos. so I would have to tell you be prepard to have your eyes water!

A general rule of thumb is that the more fat you have in a place, the less painful the tattoo will be.
