This obviously is a toss-up. Historically in the last 80 years, the Yankees have obviously been better. They've had 26 World Series wins which makes them undeniably better than the Red Sox whose 86 year stretch of no World Series' was terrible for the franchise.
From 1901-1918, though, the Red Sox won five World Series' while the Yankees won exactly none.
Since 2001 to now, the Red Sox have won one World Series to the Yankees' none. The Yankees have won the division more though.
This year, neither team has pitching, making their combined play "like Single A". Personally, as a Met and anti-Yankee fan (don't let this affect your best answer choice unless it helps me in your book), I still think the Yankees are better. Neither team is that good, but the Red Sox are hopeless this year.

Well if you are comparng just these two then the yankees are better this year. The yankee's have more depth and a way better bull pen than the red sox. If you saw the latest series between the two the yankee's totally dominated the sox.

Best team? Yankees because they buy their talent instead of training prospects. Cant deny that.
If there was a spend cap for all teams then I'd say this would be a better question to ask.

yankees by far. They improved there team at the trade deadline. The Yankees proved it this weekend when they beat them badly.
