Definitely 'The School Story' by Andrew Clements. It is about a girl who doesn't have a dad, and lives in New York. She's a really good writer. She writes a story, and with a pen name, tries to get it published. Her mom works as an editor, so when she gets the book to edit, she doesn't know that her daughter wrote it. Then, he mom gets the book, loves it, and it FINALLY gets published. The, she finds out her daughter wrote it!! Enjoy!

I just finished reading "The Italian Secretary" by Caleb Carr. I have always liked his books (The Alienist was my favorite). This reintroduces us to Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, as well as Holmes' brother. It is a murder mystery set at Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh. Fun read.

The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien.
It's set during Vietnam War and it talks about a personalized account of what soldiers experienced and the way they told their emotional stories that "didn't happen even though they did". It depicts their isolation and rage about their situation and it's really moving. It's very good and emotional. You won't be able to stop reading it. -genre: fiction.

You may immediately disregard my suggestion do to it's children's literature stigma, but I highly recommend J.M. Barrie's "Peter Pan". The book is not just a simple tale of a flying boy and a pompous pirate, but a complicated tragedy about a insecure boy who cannot grow old and a anxious pirate who cannot prevent his expected death. It is one of the most beautiful literary works of all time and everyone should read it.

I just finished The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls. It's her memoir of growing up with her alcoholic father and artist mother in the 60s. It's sad and funny.
