i have a 95 chevy full size van, when i put into gear nothing happens as in it won't move except roll backwards b/c i'm on a slight hill. My question is is it likly that its just the transmission filter/fluid needing replacement or the transmission itself? it has 144,000 miles. i just bought it a few months ago and i have no idea if its ever been replaced. any suggestions?

it is more than likely the transmission itself or the linkage to the shifter

You can try having the transmission flushed and new fluid put in, but since your car has over 144,000, I have a feeling it is the transmission itself.

Yes. If it is low on fluid or the filter is stopped up it wont move. However you dident say if it would move in any other gear. If that is the case, she has had it and time for an overhaul.

Hope this helps
