It sounds like you do need a lawyer. I can't recommend a specific one because I am not sure what area you live in. Check your Yellow pages for an attorney that specializes in Social Security Law. Also, make sure you appeal your denial. You only have 60 days, I believe, to appeal from the date you were notified of your denial so make sure you appeal ASAP. Also, go to WWW.SSA.gov and do a search for the "listings". Find the part of the listings that pertains to your disability. I have a link to the Adult listings (their is a different set of listings that pertains to children) http://www.ssa.gov/disability/professionals/bluebook/AdultListings.htm. Print out the part of the listings that are about your disability(s) and bring a copy to your doctor(s). Tell your doctor that you are applying for SSD and request that they make a report that you can bring to the SSA that addresses those listings. The listings are what the SSA uses to decide if you are disabled or not. If your disability does not coincide with the listings you will be found to be not disabled. (You will also be found to NOT be disabled if you meet the listings, but can make Substantial Gainful Activity", which is about $800-900 gross in earned wages. Unearned income such as interest in a bank account does not count for SSD, but it DOES count for SSI.) If your doctor can get you that report before you appeal your denial, you can hand in the report with your appeal paper work. A hearing takes about 2 years to get from the time you request one. It is worth going that route though because if you win you will get all the back pay. Good Luck!!

Keep at it, I am legally blind and it took me over 2 years to get it. They do pay you all back pay. If you need help call the lawfirm of Binder and Binder. They are on the web and nation wide. They are the best at helping you but remember they will get 20% of all back pay due to you.
Good Luck and I hope it breaks for you soon.

The best place to find a good lawyer is www.findlaw.com you can choose a specialist in the area that you are in. If you want a good lawyer you are going to have to pay a consultation fee. The lawyers that give free consultations are usually not as good as the ones you pay to see.

7yrs ago, before my husband passed away from cancer, he had back problems that were caused by working in a papermill. We saw an ad on TV for Social Security Disability lawyers, Binder & Binder. We contacted them & he did win his case. We did just about all of it on the phone. They were very good to work with & cared about us. Do a search for them. Good Luck!!

Ykes you should get covered fast. Have you gone to a support group for terminal cancer and asked them? Or have you gone to any support group with really sick people like blind people and asked them? There are some great attourneys out there, but it is state specific. Social Secirity should have just seen your case and instantly approved you at your apointment. How about finding a support group and talking to members with a termal disease of anykind and asking them for recomendations? You should be instantly approved. I am so sorry my sympathy. It is so hard to find one you just have to find one from a personal recomendation because organizations cannot recomend unfortunately.

check with your local legal aid office...they should be able to help, if they can't they would certainly be able to refer you to someone that can assist you.
Good luck
