it's at the bottom of monitor, size is just a bit bigger than the top of a large thumb, its just a shadow really, very faint. never noticed it before to day, by the way never clean my monitor except with a slightly moist cloth, any ideas for a granny novice, what this could be? thanks

Keep cell phones away from monitors they can affect the screen. Magnets can also affect the screen. Watch what you clean it with sometimes it can leak into the cracks make sure you clean with non-static cleaners.

I could be a finger print. Try using little soap + dry cloth. Make sure that the watermark is present even when the monitor is switch off.

Its highly unlikely to have a s/w (image) watermark on ur desktop.

Check if there is a magnet nearby if you are using a CRT monitor (not the flat kind).
