Anyone can be a presidential hopeful, but will he be successful? I doubt anyone would be able to win as an independent or 3rd party candidate. The last one to do that was Lincoln in 1860 - and even that was because the two-party system of the time was in shatters - the Whigs had completely disappeared and the Democrats were split between North and South. That isn't the situation here. People may not be crazy about the Republicans and Democrats; they may say the former is too conservative and the latter too liberal, but the parties are still very stable.
There's another factor here. People may be more willing to vote for independents in local or state-wide elections, than in a presidential race. Because of the Electoral College system, people will be less inclined to vote for someone who is not perceived as one of the two main candidates so as to not waist their vote. Why? A) the winner in each state gets all its electoral votes even if he has just one more popular vote than his rival, and B) if the college is split between 3 candidates chances are higher that no single candidate will get at least 270 electoral votes and the election of the president and VP will go to congress (which would probably be anti-independent).
Besides, there's also the problem of getting on the ballot in enough states to have a chance. Some states make it very difficult to run independently.

Nope He's no Ross Perot. He's no billionaire. He doesn't have the fund to campaign as an independent like he has as a democrat.

I sincerely hope not. All he would do is split the vote and leave us stuck with four more years of neo-Republican fascism.
