Check with the pediatrician about giving the baby some Tylenol or Ibuprofen drops. The Ibuprofen would also help with the inflammation of the teeth coming in. And try one of those soothing rings that you put int the fridge or freezer, the coolness feels really good, too.
Good luck, my 4 month old grandson is going through the same thing right now - and it's really hard knowing that they are that miserable, and you can't make it "all better."

Hmmm, this is where being the mom wins... I'm a father of a 3 year old boy and a 5 month old boy... I do know we use Ora-Jel and also you can try teething rings, don't know if they're in the UK but I know they're everywhere in the US... just put em in the freezer and put em in your baby's mouth it does 2 things: numbs the pain of the teething and takes his mind off it by being freezing cold (not to be rude but it's similar to the purpose of a salt lick for horses/cattle I guess).

When our children were small we had a ring that had some kind of fluid in the center and you put it in the freezer and then gave to the baby and they would chew on it. It helped to numb the gums. Our oldest child would chew on about anything he could get into his mouth. We kept several of these and different shapes as well. Good luck with your little on.

I'm in the office and one of the ladies suggested this pill that can be purchased at walmart. You place it under the baby's tongue and it dissolves and immediately relieves their pain.
She says it's all natural so this means no drugs or anything toxic in it.
Also, my sister had this thing that she filled with ice cubes or cold fruit and let the baby suck on it. That seemed to help my niece out a lot. You can get it at walmart. It has a handle on it and some netting that holds in the ice etc. The top snaps open so you can fill it up with whatever.

try letting him chew on a wet wash cloth, ot maybe using one of those teething rings that can be put in the freezer. The cold helps to numb the gums. This also sounds crazy, but it work with my daughter and it didn't hurt her at all. I had one of those key rings made out id cedar(you know the kind with the names) one day she got a hold of them and chewed til she was content. It didn't make her sick and when ever she got cranky I would let her chew on that ... it worked every time!
Good luck.

Get some of those teething toys with the fluid in them that you can throw in the freezer. Especially the ones with the little bumps on them. That'll help. And distract, distract, distract. Find something your baby loves to do; an activity, a movie, whatever, and do that with the child. Lots of love, and don't stress out about it. Your child will pick up your stress and stress more.

He's teething.... put a damp wash cloth in the freezer when it's frozen let your baby chew on it. It help with the pain and swelling.... I used it with all my kids
Oh The night time baby oral gel works 100% better then the daytime I used that too (even during the day) it works better then the adult one for adults too.

3 months old cutting teeth...wow he isn't wasting anytime. My oldest son only liked a cold rag while teething. My youngest son liked for me to rub his gums. Maybe a tiny bit of Tylenol before nap time will do some good.

Get a washcloth wet, wring it out good and put it in the freezer. Once it's frozen, give it to the baby to chew on. The frozen washcloth is safe for the baby and it will help numb the gums.

The best thing to do is either take him or her to the doctor, it may be serious but if you don't think it is that serious, put a cloth or tea towel intothe freezer for 2-5 hours and let the little one chew on that, it will stop him crying and will numb the pain.
