I will be 37 weeks on Thursday and my last child was almost 9 pounds at 39 1/2 weeks. I wanted to know of any tricks evict this baby out sooner and safely other than the old recommendations to have sex or ride on a bumpy road.

Several ways have been said to help. Walking, castor oil (which stimulates the bowels so dont take it unless your want to sit on the toilet), nipple stimulation, sex (if your doc says its okay). Sex has benifits of two kinds. 1. They say that if a woman orgasms, it can jump start contractions. 2. Semen has a chemical that softens the cervix. Walking would be the easiest, but may be the most painful if you feel the baby is living in your hips. Castor oil has been said to be an old wives tale, and I wouldn't recommend it, just not something pleasant you want to happen. Nipple stimulation is from what I understand a very highly used method. http://www.birthingnaturally.net/cn/technique/nipple.html go to that link to learn more about it. But first you need to talk to your doctor and make sure it is safe for you, becuase every pregnancy is different and your baby may not be ready to come out.

Good luck

This isn't something you should attempt without your doctor's consent. He/she should be monitoring your baby's growth.

But...if you're determined...apparently nipple stimulation is very effective for starting labor. Haven't tried it myself, but I know what you mean about giving the baby an eviction notice.

Good luck.

Yes you must check with your doctor, baby will come when he/she is ready, that's the safest time however if it's to large or there are other complications ask your doc about a C-section.

Try moving heavy furniture around or taking a long walk.
