Hi Safe Mode is a diagnostic mode used by certain computer operating systems such as Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X and other complex electronic devices. While the computer is in safe mode, it will have reduced functionality, but it is easier to isolate problems because many non-core components are disabled. A computer that will only boot into its safe mode typically has a major problem, such as disk corruption or the installation of poorly configured software that prevents the computer from successfully booting into its normal operating mode.

Though it varies by operating system, typically safe mode loads as few executable modules as possible and usually disables devices, except for the minimum necessary to display information and accept input. Safe mode can also take the form of a parallel "miniature" operating system that has no configuration information shared with the normal operating system. For example, on the Microsoft Windows operating system, the user can choose to boot to the command console, a small text-based troubleshooting mode kept separate from the main operating system (and can also be accessed by booting the install CD), or to various "safe mode" options that run the dysfunctional operating system, but with features such as video drivers and networking disabled, Safe Mode is also very good to Defrag in, Cybercat UK

Safe mode was designed as a diagnostic tool for evaluating run-time problems. In safe mode the computer loads only the minimum programs necessary for the computer to run. This allows you to manually start up other programs to determine which one might be causing a run time fault.

There is no danger in using safe mode but unless you're a computer professional it probably won't buy you much.

TroubleShooting and Diagnostics. In Safe Mode Windows will only start what is neccessary. I've used it for Virus removal. Also for figuring out which programs, scripts, and background processes were causing problems. Also useful if a hardware installation went badly or a hardware drive got corrupt.

safe mode is just what it sounds like - it is safe. so you usually use it when your computer has viruses on it. you can get into safe mode with only the bare minimum like command prompt or my computer. this way you can recover your computer. safe mode is not for normal use because your normal programs wont be there and there is not much you can do in there beyond network stuff.

Save Mode is good for troubleshooting.

It only loads Windows and no software.

You can check your device drivers, check for viruses, etc.

When finished, Restart.
