The only Genesis songs I ever hear on the radio are from after Phil Collins took over the vocals. How many albums were there with Peter Gabirel, and were there any radio released singles from those albums?

Genesis To Revelation (1969)
Trespass (1970)
Nursury Cryme (1971)
Foxtrot (1972)
Genesis: Live (1973)
Selling England By The Pound (1973)
The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway (1974)

With the exception of "Genesis To Revelation", all of these albums are excellent examples of progressive rock music. "Nursury Cryme", "Foxtrot" and "Selling England By The Pound" being the best.

The only song that I know of that got any radio airplay in the U.S. was "I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe)" from the Selling England.... album.

If you want to hear some Gabriel-era Genesis - go to http://progarchives.com/
Search for Genesis. They have several excellent songs in streaming audio. Then you'll hear how great of a band they truly were.

Peter Gabriel-led era of Genesis was from 1970 to 1974. It included the albums:

From Genesis to Revelation 1969
(a disapointing first attempt at commercialism which they soon abandoned)

Trespass 1970
Nursery Cryme 1971
Foxtrot 1972
Genesis Live1 1973
Selling England by the Pound 1973
The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway 1974

(taking away the live album which could have been recorded better) These albums are the best Genesis albums ever IMHO

Some of the most beautiful and starkly original music came from the band during this period -- Literate, passionate and story driven, these songs were undeniably english, but were well composed, designed for the beauty of the music rather than the virtuosity of the musician.

You MUST listen to this!

There were several albums:

Trespass
Nursery Cryme
Foxtrot
Genesis Live
Selling England by the Pound
The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway

Some of the more noteworthy songs of the Gabriel era include:

The Knife
The Musical Box
Get 'em Out by Friday
Watcher of the Skies
The Fountain of Salmacis
Supper's Ready
The Cinema Show
I Know What I Like (in your wardrobe)
Firth of Fifth
Back in NYC
The Carpet Crawlers

I might suggest you start with Foxtrot or Selling England by the Pound and see how you like them. For my money, the album-side long Supper's Ready represents one of the strongest entries in the Genesis catalog. I prefer this era far more than the Collins-era that followed.

Gabriel era songs are RARELY played on the radio but here is a list of some songs I've actually heard randomly on the radio:

I Know What I Like
Carpet Crawlers
The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway (title track)
Watcher Of The Skies

That's about it as far as radio airplay, which is certainly not a determining factor to how good a band is. I've actually also heard the entire first side of the Lamb and the entire second side of Selling England on separate nights when a station was doing a classic album rewind segment, but I don't count those.
