If its a rear wheel drive, its probably a universal joint. Front wheel drive its the transmission. Also check the tires, it could be something in the tread.

A little more info may be needed.

Humming is usually evident (especially if it's only at one speed range) that a part on your car is loose - either interior or exterior.

It hums because at that speed, the wind & engine, etc all vibrate the car at the natural harmonic frequency of the object, and it's being given the ability to vibrate.

It's _probably_ not going to ruin anything on your car, it's just annoying. One way to fix it is to have someone else in your car pinpoint where the noise is coming from, and then have a mechanic or someone pretty good with cars tighten down everythign in that corner.

More than likely it's going to be coming from one of your rear tires, and you've got a bearing starting to wear unevenly.

Might want to get your wheel bearings checked. When they start wearing out, it can sound like a hum.

LOL! I love the other answers but the real answer is probably your tires. Look for bad wear patterns on the tread, etc.

Other possible causes:
-bad rear-end gears/pinion lash problems
-CV joint issues
-warped rotors
-bent prop shaft
-the car is just plain board and needs some music

Difficult to say without witnessing it. here's a few guesses
1. Wheel alignment is out
2. Tire pressure is wring
3. Brake is sticking on a wheel
4. If it has one of those fancy engine covers, it may be loose.
5. Piece of trim is loose
