I was looking into food Expiration Dates after eating some macaroni and cheese expired by two years and found some interesting results.
Most of it won't hurt you but may be unpalatable...yeah it was but ate it anyway!
Here's some facts about expired foods and products:

Well... there was this one time where I ate those wraps with tomato, lettuce, and some other stuff, and apparently, my dad had left it in the fridge with the container slightly open. But I was hungry, so I just opened the fridge, took the wraps out, and then took a bite. After that bite, I looked at the wraps, and there was black stuff on it - MOLD. So I spit out the food in my mouth... and never ever again will I eat food without looking at it first. Grosss... nothing happened to me though... at least I think so.

I eat out of date food all the time, depending on what it is. IE: Potato chips can be quite out of date and be okay. Milk I won't drink any more than a week out of date.(if it's a "sell by" date, and not an expiration date, you're okay for about a week) To the best of my knowledge, I survived ;) One thing that has always kind of bugged me is a lot of hot sauces don;t have exp. dates printed on 'em. The link you provided was great, but still didn't answer my hot sauce question. Guess I'll just have to go with my gut (literally!) on that one :D

The expiration date is my cut-off. I won't drink milk or eat anything that's past the date.

yes. I have lots of bags of chips that expired two months ago. I still ate them and so does my sister. Nothing serious has happened.

Back in the day, food didn't have expiration dates. If it smelled OK you ate it. If it smelled nasty, you trashed it.
