I'm certainly not a genius but I still hate having my intelligence so disrespected that some people think any ludicrous premise they want to come up with applies to me. I can say one thing and have a half dozen obnoxious analyses in response, each telling me of my many defections or even distorting my beliefs and statements, or implying what they are. Perhaps that tactic dumbfounds most, but it doesn't work on me, at least not all the time. Just because some have avoided deserved criticism for their poor reasoning, doesn't mean all of us will let them.

That is what annoys me.

When people spit when they talk

well TL1 what annoys me , is the fact that in a discussion / debate, you are to put a point, out on the table, and all are to discuss or debate. This reasoning is good for the fact that you can be heard, yet there are not to be personal stabs or remarks towards your views. That is why it is a debate. Your view, their view, and it's suppose to stay that way. Two sided. The thing that bugs me is when someone comes along and not just shoots down my view but insists on proving what an idiot I am for verbalizing it. Hey if ya want to persuade me, give me another side of the coin and let me figure it out. don't give me your opinion, because that's not part of the game. (just pro's and con's of a discussion or debate) the end : )

The thing that annoys me the most is someone who makes claims without having even the slightest proof to back it up. I also get highly annoyed by those who think they can take what certain news networks (specifically CNN) as the truth no matter what they say. Something I have noticed that tends to annoy everyone on here is when someone makes absurd statements because of a lack of a real comeback (for instance, the your momma thing).

I become rather irked when someone insists that there is only one logical opinion, idea, thought etc. and it's theirs.

Also, I do not like people that can not grasp the idea that things are NOT one-sided as well as NOT just plain black and white.

More importantly however we can all agree that the most ludcrious thing of all is a person who repeats the same thing over (in their defense), only re-wording it numerous times.

If you believe in something you'll have evidence, ideas, thoughts and the like to back it up. You won't have to resort to using the same statement over and over.

It's childish when people can't accept the fact that not everything is by the books in this world!

The thing that irritates me the most when engaged in debate is the inability of my opponent to reason. Nothing is worse than a person with strong convictions who can not follow logic and reasoning to a level of understanding that negates those convictions and enlightens them to a greater reality. They insist that they hear what you are saying but will not let go of their convictions and continually attempt to win you over to them, no matter how ignorant the convictions may be. Inflexibility of thought is the beginning of some's end. It doesn't bother me so much if I can walk away, but some of these types will follow you.

You are absolutely right. It's all over yahoo. If your point of view doesn't agree with some, they instantly use abusive language and call you a liar.

What we need is certain a level of maturity in our discussions, that allows us to listen to others point of view. Each of us presents his/ her case in a mature manner supporting their belief with evidence.

In the end, either I convince you or you convince me and it ends at that. No need for all the abuse and childish behavior.

Debate by its nature annoys at least one side, as it was not designed to inform, but to outsmart, i.e. out-deceive, the other side.

Debate as a means to find truth has become the greatest folly of civilized discourse.

Anyone care to debate that?

And please let us not confuse debate as we know it with socratic dialog - a lost art in the age where myth trumps scientific method.

"A great deal of intelligence is invested in ignorance when the need for illusion is great." - Saul Bellows

It is very important to our ego to preserve what we believe in.

It takes an unusally strong wise person to change beliefs and behavior as circumstances change.

I hate on here when people are all against racial profiling, even though they know nothing about the value of the process.

The CIA and FBI racially profile. They know what race someone was and what gender by what type of crime they did and everything.

sorry... venting. lol

I agree. I dislike obnoxious answers where people are insulting. I can disagree with someone without being a jerk about it.

People who try to change your mind with silly arguments, and get mad at you when you don't have the same opinion as theirs.

That is annoying!
