Fair and equal treatment and rights to a civil, lawful union between two adults who wish to make a better living by sharing each others life wether they are male/male, female/female or male/female. Without a reigious bias that would degrade the civil liberties of all Americans heterosexual or homosexual.

No. I am not religious, but the idea of lawful union between two adults of the same sex makes no sense. The union is designed to protect the offspring of the adults, and even has analagous behavior in some animal species. Two adults of the same sex can enjoy the same protections by entering into a binding legal agreement without involving the government.

Yes, definitely. Marriage was created by human beings because of certain social and legal needs. Circumstances have changed over time (and place) and with them the institution of marriage. Look at the different forms of marriage still in existence around the world - marriage of children, bigamy, religions that do not recognize divorce, just to name a few.

Same sex marriages/civil unions should be recognized. Same sex partners should be entitled to the same rights as those of the opposite sex: from the most basic right of visiting their significant other in the hospital during "family only" hours to adoption of each other's children and adoption of other children together.
