It doesn't harm your computer nor it affects your computer's performance. Hibernation process saves all data stored in RAM to your hard drive and switches off your computer therefore your computer doesn't need power supply when hibernated. When you restore from hibernation, data previously saved on HDD is put back into RAM which restores the exact state of your computer as before Hibernating. You won't lose any data from unsaved document's.

This will not do your PC any harm, but if you leave your PC to (say make a coffee, go to the loo) why not reset your Power Options to close after say 5mins, sometimes i will answer the phone and leave my PC for 3/4 hour, maybe i should take my own advice ! lol.

Don't think so, but why do you bother. You can set your power to go on standby within a minute or so of inactivity, but to be safe I would save and close any open files before walking away.
Start
Settings
Control
Power Options
Set your power scheme to your liking and name it after yourself.

Left click on it, and click "regulate potential residences." the place it says "while laptop is: plugged in/on battery potential," you may regulate the "turn off visual exhibit unit" decision for the two.
