Start searching for what you want in your price range,then call the landlord and ask if they accept section 8.The section 8 office should also have listings there of potential landlords for you to call.Good luck

You need to contact the housing authority in your area to apply for a Section 8 voucher. After you are notified you have a voucher, you need to find a landlord who is willing to accept the voucher. You pay the difference between the amount of the voucher and the rent. This process could take as long as 3 years, depending on your local waiting list.

By checking out the local listings in the newspapers. Sometimes they will say that they accept Section 8 and if you see a house with the specifications you want, you can always ask them if they accept section 8.

Section 8 will give you a tiny apartment with roaches. I hate to tell you that, but it's true. Plus it can take up to 2 years, if you are lucky. I tried once and by the time they had something, I didn't need their help anymore.

i dunno about IL, but in CA they are cutting WAY back on section 8. even though there has been no increase of income, my share of the rent has been increased dramatically! Its almost not even worth going on it.. as I have to cover a whole lot more than the 30 % they say that u are only supposed to pay out...

Call the state....I know it sucks (I lived in Chitown for 5 yrs) but they will give a list of all HUD apts in the area. Also, you have to apply for HUD and when approved they should give you a list.
