I think there is a danger of toxoplasmosis. I would really call the Ob and not trust information that you get here. This web site has info:

Yeah my OB said if I had to change the box use gloves and wear a mask like a painters mask. The baby can get more than ill, I think it can cause birth defects? If you have to do this for work i'd quit. Ask them for a different duty while your pregnant, and if they can't find you something else to do you should think about finding another job. I wouldn't risk my babies health. Good luck.

Wearing gloves and a face mask when changing the litter would be a good idea. Of course changing the litter box became my job once my wife got pregnent because she was worried to risk it.

My doctor said it would be okay if I wore gloves. Since I grew up with cats all my life, I probably had an immunity to the virus, but there is a test that can be done to check for immunity.

Check with your doctor.

You can take care of cats, but it's recommended that you avoid changing cat litter, due to Toxoplasmosis, which can be fatal to the baby. http://www.vetinfo.com/ctoxo.html

my doctor said it is fine as long as you wear gloves and use a scoop with the hole in it so that the clean litter falls through it.

The first thing my doctor told me was to stay away from cats, have you gone to the doctor yet? How far along are you?
