slugs and snails, they love them. Some are really small and you cant see them at night but theyre there alright. You need to go on night patrol and pluck off the ones you can see or you'll have nothing left at all.

I think slugs or snails would probably be eating other plants as well as your campanulas.
Are you sure you haven't got the dreaded Vine Weevil? They are quite specific in the plants they attack - in our case it is Hydrangea petiolaris, and Bergenias which seem to be their favourites, they particularly like things in pots, but aren't above eating things out in the garden as well.
They adults eat the leaves, and the larvae can do an awful lot of damage to the roots of your plants.
You can buy Vine weevil killer which is a systemic insecticide which is fine to use on campanulas, but don't use it on vegetables. You may have to water the plants several times with the killer before they are under control.
It is difficult to advise without seeing the eating pattern, is it just on the leaves, or are the flowers being eaten as well?

. . . I had exactly the same problem with my campanulas until I sprinkled them with fine silver sand, it didn't kill them but it certainly destroyed the teeth of those pesky crabs . . .
