ive work in double glazing for 13 years and we have never had beads taken out (and im sure we would hear about it) we do insurance repairs and all of our are beaded on the outside

burglars like beads on the inside on doors as a good kick can take the panel and beads out most of the time, this seems to be very common nowdays

for external beaded windows there is somthing called "glass locks" that can be fitted, hidden behind the beads, the beads can still be removed but the unit can not be removed with out a special tool on the inside or you could just glue the beads in but if the unit seal gos and you get condensation then you would need a new window

Other than replacing them you can't really, other than making the outside of your house inaccessible to potential thieves, such as gravel under the window, prickly plants/shrubs, security lights etc.

Being a police officer, I have NEVER been to a burglary where a burglar has got in through pvc double glazing, so they are very secure anyway.

Internal Beading is the key as you say, although you will still find suppliers that don't offer it.
