If they've tested you again and they say you're ok then you probably are. You can always go see another doctor for a second opinion if you don't trust their results. I had an abnormal pap once and had to get all the abnormal cells removed (frozen off like they do with warts). Haven't had any problems since.

OK, you're probably being called back because they've found some suspicious looking pre-cancerous cells. The important word I just said was PRE-cancerous. They are not cancerous yet, but they have the potential to become cancerous in time if you are not treated.

What will most likely happen, is you will have another smear test. If that is normal, then you have nothing to worry about. If it shows the same thing (mild dyskaryosis is the medical term used), then you may be sent for something called a colposcopy. In this procedure, they can look at the cells in more detail and if necessary, they can remove a very small section of the cervix with a laser, to prevent the cells becoming cancerous in the future. This is a very minor procedure, so please don't start panicking about it.

I hope I haven't worried you, but I guess you were worried about this in the first place and I felt it was better that you know what's going on. The most important thing you can do, is to go back for a repeat smear, and then take it from there. Good luck.

Right when you go for a routine smear test, they will check for changes in the cervix. If your test comes back as abnormal this means either u go for a repeat test, or they will refer you to a gynaecologist for further investigation. This is nothing to worry about, they know what they are doing. I had severe abnormal test results twice and then i went for a colposcopy(camera inside the cervix using iodine to detect the abnormal cells) then I had laser treatment to rid of the cells, and I had a cone biopsy-- where they take a portion of the cervix(this grows back by the way) to test for Cancer.

although painful, it is well worth it as they can do something about it in the early stages. And yes they will do another test if they had an inconclusive result the last time. Don't worry at the very least they will do a colposcopy (as i explained above).

Ok, I am a medical Laboratory Tech, I am assumming you are talking about a pap smear, there are hundreds and thousands of different smears for different body orfices. So with assuming it is a pap smear, if your Dr said you have to be retested in 6 months, there is nothing really to worry about at this time, it just means your cells are changeing and that happens with age, hormonal fluctuation, anything really. But if he said you have borderline cells, you need to question your Dr. is he refereing to finding polups??? But rest assured that if any cancerous cells were found, you would have been told directly. If he found inactive cancerous cells that is easy to take care of. Did you Dr suggest a DNC at all to you? or a biopsy? If not, rest your head a little, if it really is anything you need to be worried about, those procedures would have definately been ordered.
Hope that helps to relieve you a little bit, but you really need to push your Dr into giving you all the details of your results.

You should definitely follow up. An abnormal PAP smear could be nothing, or in a case like mine, it was Stage 1 cervical cancer!!
I had been getting abnormal smears for 18 months after my son was born and only one doctor thought to do a culposcopy to figure things out! Thanks to him, I had a very quick recovery and no complications after treatment.

Please push to have further testing done if your PAP should come back abnormal again! It could save your life!!
