Smaller, no. However, there are alternatives you can try, like woman-on-top (she can control the depth this way) or side-by-side positions that might not allow you to thrust so deeply (which is what's causing the discomfort - you're banging against her cervix at the base of her vaginal canal). One position to avoid no matter what is "doggy-style" as this provides the deepest thrust and will cause a LOT of discomfort.
