I am thinking of buying a new computor , my one I have now is real old , and I'm considering a laptop. How do I go about transferring all my files / info/ favourites etc from my old computor to my new one ? I have no clue about computors much, would this be a hard process to do myself ?

there are many ways of saving data, easiest would be to burn the Cd's with all important data and files. and once you have a new computer just save the data to the new one. you can also use, flash drive or if you have external hard disk. as you said you have no clues about computer so networking will not be a good option for you.
but if you want to transfer programs also.......then its not possible.......you can not transfer program from one PC to another, if you have the program Cd's with you you can reinstall it though.

If you have XP you could try files and settings transfer wizard. I tested it and it seems to work reasonably well.
