Good answers from most of you, yes there were and are V-4s. Honda's 1983 750 pumped out about 82 ponies, and came in two models, the V-45 Magna, and the sport type V-45 Sabre. I remember the first Sabre our dealership got. I put it in service as my Demo, and proceeded to kick butt on all of the inline 4 1000s around . The V-4 also came along later with a V-30, (550 cc), and of course all the Interceptor bikes, from 700 to the 1000. Also the awesome V-65 Magna, and 1100 Sabre, for many years the holder of the fastest time, 0-60., and still one of the fastest bikes of all time. 113-121 H.P. A V-4 makes more torque at all levels of the power band, than an inline 4, and makes more in the middle and top end than a V-twin. The newer super bikes, R-1, Hayabusa, CBR1000, and a few more do make more top end, and are lighter than the mid to late 80s V-4s, but do not match the hard off the line acelleration of the Magna V-65, or the 1100 Sabre, or the other very notable Yamaha V-Max. These big V-4s were barely over $4,000 at the time. These were considered Muscle bikes, like a Muscle car, very torquy, fast strait line, tire smolking, acellleration. It was very easy to put the front tire way up in the air at 60 plus, just by rolling on the throttle. Read the Cycle World, or some of the other road test from 83-84 o the V-65, or V-Max, On the other hand the VT 750 twin is a good, dependable bike with about 50 hp on a good day. Yes there were and are V-4 Motorcycles...

Yes it IS a V-4,
I own a V65 Magna and enjoy it very much, with the V-4 there is a smooth flow of power which is more forgiving then a V twin like the shadow and it will not make you saddle sore as quickly on them long runs. Today it seems like everyone wants a V twin Harley look-a-like with the loud exhaust or a sport bike with a nasty snarle to it, me I have always enjoyed a cruser. With a V-45 you will be able to hold your own with almost any bikes its size.
Is this a "super" magna or a "original" 82-86 model?
You can find out just about anything you need to know about the Magna on www.v4hondabbs.com it's free and there is alot of really great folks there.

The Magna is a V-Four motor so you have 4 cylinders vs. the Shadow which is a V-Twin (2 cylinders)
Your going to find the Magna has more "get up and go" - it'll deliver the power much quicker than the Shadow.
The Shadow is going to feel like it lopes along at freeway speeds. Both bikes are water cooled, shaft drive and bulletproof.
I personally like the V-Four motor and while it probably requires more in maintence I think it's a better choice for power delivery.

who ever said there is no such thing as a v-four has no idea about anything. A v four is real and honda uses them for the magna and interceptor as well as it was raced in professional circuts. The v45 magna is a great bike with a great motor, I rode it for a few 100 miles. The shadow 750 is underpowered and kinda wimpy, stick with the magna.

There is no such thing as a v 4 motor...it is an in-line 4.
The in-line motor will be like riding a rocket, but both should have ample power. I road a 750, but actually preferred the 500 because it was more nimble. See if you can take them out for a pilot

I agree with Max 100%. Unless you must have a traditional cruiser style bike, the Magna is a way better motorcycle.
