My hamster Pooh Bear has been really mean and I don't know why

Hamsters are mean little SOB's if they haven't been handled a lot as babies and as they grow up.

Rats are much better pets, they are cleaner, smarter and friendlier than hamsters and guinea pigs. Tame rats actually like to spend time with people and can learn tricks. Hamsters have the attention span of a guppy.

They can bite. Make sure you wash your hands before picking up or playing with a hamster. If they smell food on your hands, they will bite. If they smell another hamster scent on your hands, they will bite.

Mine has not bitten me yet. He is probably happy with all the good food and treats I give him.

depends on the hamster. they bite for many reasons. fear, pain, etc. have u had him long? if he wasnt handled daily he's not used to people. if he gets on his side or back he's about to bite u. some r cage aggressive & only bite in their cage. try getting him out with his hamster ball---hold it to the cage door---once hes inside go sit down & let him on your lap. do this daily so he gets used to u. handfeed him treats like banana or broccoli. girls tend to bite more than boys. they really dont want to be bothered--some just tolerate us better than others.

when it was small did u put ur hand in the cage alot if u didits probaly the reasony it felt as if u were going to take the territory away and it probably remembers that time and now whenever u take it out it feels that ur going to take the little cage away and now it bites u so it can go back in the cage if any other problems contact me @
